Alpha in Physics
In physics, "alpha" typically refers to two main concepts:
- Fine Structure Constant (α): Represented by the Greek letter α, it's a fundamental constant in quantum electrodynamics. The fine structure constant describes the strength of the electromagnetic interaction between charged particles. Its approximate value is 1/137, indicating the relative strength of the electromagnetic force compared to other fundamental forces.
- Angular Acceleration (α): Denoted by α, it represents the rate of change of angular velocity over time. In rotational motion, angular acceleration measures how quickly the angular velocity of an object changes. It's measured in radians per second squared (rad/s²) and can be positive or negative, indicating whether the angular velocity is increasing or decreasing, respectively.
